How much does a website cost in Ontario? (2026 prices)
A small-business website in Ontario typically costs anywhere from under $1,000 for a single page to $10,000 or more for a large content site. At Papaya, a one-page site starts at $950, a business site of up to 10 pages is $3,000–$5,000, and content-rich builds run $6,000–$10,000, plus HST.
Custom sites and online stores start at $5,000 and are quoted per scope. Upkeep is a separate monthly fee. The rest of this post explains what moves a project between those bands, and how we price so the number doesn't drift.
What does a website cost in Ontario in 2026?
For an outside reference point, one Canadian pricing guide puts small-business websites from freelancers and boutique studios at $599–$2,995+ one-time, plus $69–$199 a month. Agencies working with larger budgets sit well above that.
Here is where our projects typically land, in CAD plus HST:
| Website or plan | Price |
|---|---|
| Simple one-page static website | from $950 |
| Business website (up to 10 pages) | $3,000–$5,000 |
| Content-rich or multi-location site (10–30 pages, blog, location pages) | $6,000–$10,000 |
| Custom website or online store | $5,000+ (quoted per scope) |
| Website Care plan | $79/month |
Ranges describe where typical projects land. The fixed written quote is the price. Prices are starting points, and scope and deliverables determine the final number.
What pushes a website into the next price band?
Page count matters, but it's rarely the whole story. The real drivers are:
- Content volume. Ten service pages with real copy take more work than ten thin ones. Location pages and a blog add up quickly.
- Who writes the words. If you supply finished copy and photos, the build is simpler. If we write it, that's part of the scope.
- What the site has to do. Booking, online ordering, quote forms with logic, or a product catalogue all move a project toward custom.
- Integrations. Connecting a CRM, payment processor or email platform adds setup and testing time.
- Brand work. If you need a logo or identity before the site, that's a separate piece of work.
A one-page site suits a new business that needs to be findable and contactable. A business that sells several services across several towns usually needs the content-rich tier, because each service and area deserves its own page.
What does a website cost per month?
There are two kinds of monthly cost: the platform and the upkeep. Many site builders charge a subscription just to keep the site online, and that fee never ends.
Our sites are hand-built and hosted on Cloudflare, so there is no monthly platform fee, and you own the domain and the files. The Website Care plan, at $79/month plus HST, covers hosting, small edits, backups and speed checks.
Why don't you negotiate on price?
We publish fixed prices, and we don't haggle. The process is short:
- A quick scoping call or email to understand what you need.
- One fixed written quote that lists what's included.
- The price doesn't move once you accept it.
Our rule is "we don't discount, we re-scope." A discount means either the work gets rushed or someone else's project quietly subsidizes yours. Re-scoping means we agree on less work for less money, and you still get a site built properly.
Worked example: say a quote comes in at $4,200 for an eight-page business site and your budget is $3,500. Instead of shaving the price, we might cut it to six pages and move the blog to a later phase. You know exactly what you're getting, and nothing is quietly left out.
Our team's background includes construction finance, job costing and WIP schedules. We'd rather price a job properly once than renegotiate it twice.
How do you compare website quotes in Ontario?
Two quotes with the same total can buy very different things. Before you sign, check:
- HST. Is it included or added on top? In Ontario it's 13%.
- Ownership. Is the domain registered in your name? Can you take the files if you leave?
- Monthly fees. What's the ongoing cost, and what does it actually cover?
- Launch basics. Are a privacy policy, cookie consent, analytics, a sitemap, image compression and a custom 404 page included, or extras?
- Changes. What happens if you add a page halfway through? Is there a written change process?
- Content. Who writes the copy and sources the photos?
A low quote that leaves out half of that list isn't cheaper. It just moves the cost to later.
Where Papaya fits
We believe in radical transparency: every site is custom-designed, and every price is published, from a $950 one-page site up to $10,000–$100,000+ engagements. If you're comparing options across the province, our Ontario web design page covers how we work with businesses outside Kitchener-Waterloo. You can see every tier on our pricing page, or request a fixed quote and we'll reply within one business day.
Common questions
Are Ontario website prices quoted with HST?
Most studios quote before tax, so check. Our prices are in CAD plus 13% HST, so a $4,000 website comes to $4,520 with tax.
Is there a monthly fee after a website launches?
It depends on how the site is built. Sites on subscription builders carry a platform fee for as long as they're online; our hand-built sites have no platform fee, and hosting, small edits, backups and speed checks are covered by the Website Care plan at $79/month plus HST.
Can I get a lower price if my budget is smaller?
We don't discount, but we do re-scope. On a quick scoping call or email we work out what can be trimmed or moved to a later phase so the fixed quote fits your budget.
